I am trying to automate a manual task in DevOps using Power Automate which is updating the work item type 'forecast' to 'task' when the state of the work item type 'forecast' is changed to 'done'.

I tried the flow and it shows that it has run successfully but it does not really update the work item type to 'task' and the work item type remains 'forecast'.

Although build-in action fails to update type, a REST API call does the job.
Replace update action with "Send an HTTP request to Azure DevOps":

  • Method : PATCH
  • Relative URI : _apis/wit/workitems/{---item-id---}?api-version=7.1-preview.3
  • Headers : Content-Type:application/json-patch+json
  • Body: [{ "op": "add", "path": "/fields/System.WorkItemType", "value": "Task" }]
