I'm working on using the Sharepoint REST API to create sites. What I'd like to do is to be able to create a site, say https://mytenant.sharepoint.com/sites/MyTemplateSite, and customize it, and using this MyTemplateSite a template for automatically created sites. This way our internal Sharepoint super users could create new and tweak existing "site templates", without having to dive in to the site script JSON data structure.

In order to accomplish this, I'd need to extract the site script from this MyTemplateSite using the REST API. Is this possible, and if so, how? On https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/dev/declarative-customization/site-design-rest-api there's no commands that I believe fit my use case.

The functionality I need looks indentical to the "Get-SPOSiteScriptFromWeb" powershell function (see https://laurakokkarinen.com/the-ultimate-guide-to-sharepoint-site-designs-and-site-scripts/#exporting-an-existing-site-as-a-site-script), but as I'm using Python to access the Sharepoint REST API I'd prefer not adding powershell into the mix.
