I have an on-premises install of SharePoint. It has an Information Management Policy on a list to set up a retention policy. I have it set up to send the file to the recycle bin after the End date (a field on my list) plus 18 months.
The same list has a workflow that is to be initiated "on item changed". It seems that the expiry policy is actually kicking off the workflow - making me think that perhaps the policy modifying the item, perhaps adding something to it prior to moving it to the recycle bin.
I've read online that the information policy marks the item as "expiring" but then the timer job only actually does the move until later - deleting those that have been marked as "expired".
I just want to have a retention policy set up that does not kick off the "on changed" workflow.
