Using SP2013. My site has a document library of Excel files. I have client-side access to modify the site via Sharepoint Designer 2013. I'd like to set up an event to fire when a document is checked in so that I can get some content out of the document and update the document's metadata. A rough algorithm of how my code would work:

  1. User clicks "Check In", either on a Sharepoint page or in the checked-out Excel workbook.
  2. Check-in operation occurs.
  3. Workbook is opened and value is read using js-xlsx.
  4. Metadata is updated with value using REST API's validateupdatelistitem.

I'm trying to figure out how to set up this response sequence using client side code only. I've looked at Event Receivers but they seem to only be createable using server-side code.
