I know that questions related the "The workflow could not update the item, possibly because one or more columns for the item require a different type of information." error message have been asked many times, but solution found here are not really complaint with our WF requirements.

For example, the solution with one minute delay at the beginning of the WF, resolves the issue, but usually pauses the WF for much longer time (usually 6-7 minutes)

Some details about the error:

  • Error occurs only if workflow runs second time after being published, first run goes smoothly.
  • Workflow is running for a document which is being copied from another document library with another workflow. (e.g. document uploaded to library A -> WF copied the document to library B -> WF in library B failed with the mentioned error)

Would anybody suggest a debugging solution to determine what exactly happens under the hood, so I can prevent occurrence or the issue?
