Feb 12, 2016 at 16:36 comment added Waqas Sarwar MVP But if you delete from Sql but not from SharePoint then you will get all orphan messages and alerts....cannot find the content database etc
Feb 12, 2016 at 16:35 comment added Waqas Sarwar MVP it will never remove from the Database server, it is two step process. 1) detach from the central admin 2) delete from the SQL.
Feb 12, 2016 at 16:31 comment added John John @Christofferi want to remove it to free space ,, i mean if i delete a content databases using sharepoint UI, it will never get removed automatically from sql ..?
Feb 12, 2016 at 16:26 comment added Christoffer I would say it's a safety precaution. When you use "Remove Content Database" from the UI, you just detach it from the webapplication, closing all the communication between the database and the webapplication. To remove it permanently, you will have to delete it from SQL itself.
Feb 12, 2016 at 16:24 comment added John John but when will the content database be deleted permanently from the sql server ? i mean whenever i remove the content database from SharePoint central administration,, it will stay inside the sql itself .. not sure why ?
