ran STSADM.EXE -o Sync -listolddatabases 30 again, and now it runs without error and shows no entries. Also "User Information List" shows no entries. I am noticing in the windows event log an error along the regaridng ` Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.LMTRepopulationJob (...` not sure if that could be related?

STSADM.EXE -o Sync -deleteolddatabases 30 gave A failure occurred during the processing of this command. Check diagnostic logs for more information. I'm not sure where to find the diagnostic logs for stsadm . The "User Information List" was empty. Are you aware of equivalent powershell commands for these stsadm commands?
