It does not say you must install SharePoint so I was wrong there (it's still not clear from licensing perspective how you can move SharePoint DLLs around) but it says you should install it if you plan to do automated testing post-build.
Apr 26, 2011 at 22:37 | comment | added | Ryan | Yes I guessed as much - but its quite a step from that to an official sounding (and oft overused phrase) "best practice" that would apply to a build server I think.
Apr 26, 2011 at 22:27 | comment | added | Sean Earp | @Ryan: I assume he's referring to the official documentation on setting up a development workstation: msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee554869.aspx
Apr 26, 2011 at 12:12 | comment | added | Ryan | @Toni - have any refs about 'best practice'?
Apr 26, 2011 at 11:51 | comment | added | Toni Frankola | LOL, no they are not, you still need to install SharePoint!
Apr 26, 2011 at 10:12 | comment | added | Andrey Markeev | SharePoint dlls are installed with Visual Studio 2010, because it includes SharePoint Developer Tools.
Apr 26, 2011 at 7:56 | comment | added | Toni Frankola | I am not saying it want work :)))), but AFAIK this is illegal (you are redistributing SharePoint DLLs!!!) and not recommended practice not event for a build server.
Apr 26, 2011 at 7:28 | comment | added | Ryan | Not true Toni - the compiler has to be able to have access to the SharePoint dlls, but these can be in the file system, e.g. under a "Dependencies" folder in your project.
Apr 25, 2011 at 21:27 | comment | added | Toni Frankola | You can only build SharePoint projects on a machine with SharePoint installed, what you are doing is not supported and not the best-practice! My guess is someone added SharePoint DLLs to GAC on these machines. My advice: install SharePoint ASAP.
Apr 25, 2011 at 21:24 | comment | added | MedicineMan | I would think so too, but our dev machines do not have sharepoint installed, and they seem to build this just fine.
