Although I agree with you Tevylyn, there may be other factors in play, that are unavailable through SharePoint Lists. There are many features baked into Excel, you can't use otherwise; Pivots, Complex Formulas, Charting, etc.

comment SharePoint redirects me to non-existent Account/Login page
Can you confirm a few items for me? It's been awhile since I've done this, but can you go to "<enter your site>/_layouts/AreaWelcomePage.aspx" and see if it gives you the start page (and confirm that it isn't set to the Account/Logon page. If that doesn't work, can you check central administration (if this is a server versus multi-tenant) and go to Manage Web Application, and verify if everything is good on the ribbon under the "Authentication Providers".

It's interesting that you masked the IP address, despite that it's listed in your request URL.

The prompt for credentials is so you can put in your credentials, and log in as that user. For example, you could try logging in as your service account, and see if you have access. Likewise, you can re-log as your user account. You want to add it to the access denied page, just as a force, to re-log in. This will ensure you log into the site under the right account that has permissions. Please let me know if this helps.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure in Office 365 MT (multi-tenant). I know this works in Office 365 Dedicated, for certain.

Also, you can try the following, if you want to force the specific user account: At any time, you can log in with whatever user account by manually entering the following, enter your domain and subsites and then "/_layouts/accessdenied.aspx?loginasanotheruser=true". For example, "yourdomain.com/subsite/_layouts/…;.
