comment Limiting CPU usage with SharePoint 2013
What VM Host are you using? Hyper-V, VMWare, etc? Many VM Hosts have an option to limit the CPU usage to a certain percent of CPU resources or limit to a certain number of cores.

comment A timer job's schedule type is changed from yearly to hourly after running it
I was suggesting trying just so you could know for sure if it is a problem with the GUI. When I create complicated list views that aren't possible with the GUI, changing the view in the GUI breaks the view. I suspect you are dealing with something similar.

I would suspect that once you click run now, it saves the settings on the page and defaults to hourly since nothing is selected. When you run the Timer Job from PowerShell does it also revert to hourly?

Open Windows Services and restart the SharePoint Trace Log Service or open a command prompt as administrator and run net stop SPTrace and then net start SPTrace

comment Re-attach Event Receiver to library
Sorry if this is obvious but it might be worth a shot. Have you tried going into the CT via Site Settings -> Site Content Types and forcing it to update all instances of the CT?

I eventually gave up and created a 2 VM Farm. What a horrible waste of resources...

comment Sandbox Solutions on a SharePoint VM that also acts as a Domain Controller
Giving a bunch of developers multiple VMs does not cut it for many organizations. We have successfully done single VM senarios up until 2012 R2 and SP 2013 SP1 (including 2012 with SP 2013). The VMs have thus far successfully synced from AD to UPS through the sync service without issue. I cannot speak for Document Conversion.

When the defaults were put in place, the document library was empty... This affects all documents in the library.

comment Default Values do not get applied to new versions of documents
Thank you for the options. I'm not looking for statics; if the user purposefully changes the value, then that makes sense. Instead, I'm just trying to get around this unintended behavior that completely defeats the purpose of document versioning. I am using 'Column Default Settings' in the Library settings. I have dozens of defaults and it would be difficult to also have to manage these defaults in a workflow.
