Thanks for your answer! The reason that I think it isn't a feasible solution is that people are creating new sites and libraries all the time.

Or should I add those users to a temporary site collection so I have something to bind to Move-SPUser?

Okay, so you suggest that I just delete the old profiles and re run the sync?

If I delete the profile and social databases and start fresh, those issues don't exist but I don't want to lose the users custom profile and social information.

So the problem is that if I run a sync after migrating the users in SharePoint, I get a ton of errors regarding conflicting profiles. I want the usernames to be in the ADFS format, not the AD format to prevent those issues.

new sites / libraries are created all the time. It would be a management nightmare. To give a scale of magnitude of this environment, there are 55,000 users and 11 servers.

Thanks for answering! The documents already open in OWA, which is exactly what I want. I'm only trying to change the New Document button behavior.

I updated the post, the original functionality is literally just an upload modal window.
