Page.Response.Redirect is a server function. SP.UI.... are client side functions. window.location.href = window.location.href is reloading your browser like you're entering the current url for the first time (without loading again cached resources and all that stuff). The SP.UI.ModalDialog.RefreshPage(enumvalue) only refreshes the page if the value is the 'OK' enum value. (just tested it on firefox)

Actually, is quite possible to nest a webpart inside another webpart. The thing is your users wont be able to configure them. Your best bet is what @erickb recommends. Using bootstrap, JqueryUI or whatever javascript tab plugin you find suitable for your needs

Yes I did saw the question, and I'm testing the methods using javascript/calling them through the browser's url. I still get the endpoint not found error.

Still I was wondering if you (or anybody else) knows how the out string used for the barcode generation is built/generated. I have a custom Document Id provider functionality working and it keeps giving me random strings (the barcode, not the doc id generator, that works awesomely fine!) and I need the barcode to be generated according to my custom doc id, not that random string. Anyways I think the only workaround is to write another custom provider for the barcode generation

comment Object ref not set to instance of object in SPListItem extension method
aditionally you could do SPFieldUserValueCollection users = new SPFieldUserValueCollection(item.Web, item[field].ToString()) and iterate trough the SPFieldValue collection

item[fieldName] or item[fieldGuid] won't give you a field, it will give you a field value.

"Insert Barcode command is no longer available on the ribbon. The functionality of requiring SharePoint generated barcodes to be embedded in a Microsoft Word document has been discontinued." Workaround: "Write a custom Open XML application that takes the server side barcode and injects into the Word document." According to this the barcode information policy will still work, but the barcode insertion into office documents won't work. Thats ok since I have a custom office template - fields combine functionality (and I think I can insert the image on the office template combination).
