SPSite.allwebs returns error To use the shell the user must have special previliges. In SharePoint 2010 you can use the add-shelladmin cmdlt: technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee806878.aspx#section3 I think your reference to the missing db permissions is the right way to go. |

upload master page using powershell Your approch is working and maybe there is a reason doing it this way. can you please give us a reason why your ar not using a sharepoint solution (WSP) to do this? In generall this would be the best practice. Not saying you are doing it wrong. i'm just curious why you went with this approch. |

Difference between Application Pool and WebSites in IIS a website is at the root level comparable to a virtual directory. and per virtual directory you can create an app with its own app pool. just to clarify the statement a bit. |

Migrate entire web application I've submited a question sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/12547 i've there is any guidance. If you don't have da dedicated crawl target to reduce traffic during full crawls i would not host this role on any app server. check my question maybe it is helpful. |

Move list from root site to subsite there are dedicated tools on the server side to do this. leaving the serverside will result in losing information like created, modified and also permissions are not transfered. If all of this is not needed your approach is a quick an easy solution. |

Migrate entire web application You didn't mention the servers are in one farm. I've send an update request for your questions. Bas answer is misleading, but he didn't have all information. |

intranet/extranet topology with search? No. By default this is not possible. You can develop your own result webparts based on the default ones, but i wouldn't recommend it. In my opinion there is no need to do this, because security trimming is working. otherwise our initial question is not complete, but for the details we have it works with the default security trimming. |
