I am currently the Lead Software Developer at Total Solutions, Inc. in Brighton, MI.

I have a healthy obsession with meatless food, and an unhealthy compulsion to clean code.

I'd like to note that turning off UAC is definitely not recommended.

comment How to hide a masterpage div when displayed in a SharePoint dialog window
In 2010 it was s4-notdlg. The rule, IIRC, is .ms-dialog .s4-notdlg { display: none !important; }

As a side note, so long as you use the ~sitecollection token in the ScriptLink control it will parse the token into the site collection's server relative URL and will not try to load from the file system.

comment What is the best way to query a list in sharepoint 2013
I think the problem with your question is that there is no one best way. It all depends on what you're doing, and where you're trying to do it.

blog.furuknap.net/why-linq-to-sharepoint-is-a-bad-idea <-- I never use Linq to SP. SharePoint is dynamic. Linq to SP is not. In the article he gets into this in "The Ugly" around "Well, LINQ to SharePoint won’t pick up on such changes. In fact, as I’ll explain in a moment, LINQ to SharePoint is highly static and works only for a definition of the data model that was current at the time of the start of development."

comment Set a page as the default document root page
You can still use URL rewriting, just YMMV, and it is not officially supported.

comment Set a page as the default document root page
You can set the landing/welcome page (techtrainingnotes.blogspot.com/2011/06/…), but it will still direct you to the actual page. The technical reason url-rewriting isn't supported is because of how the page paths are parsed in SharePoint, as the files are stored in the content database rather than as actual files on the file system.
