comment How to restore deleted OOB Timer Job
@ps Microsoft says you can't alter database content, but to configure a procedure to run from SQL I guess wouldn't compromise warrenty. I guess thats the fastest solution for your problem, even if I'd do a complete package to replace the missing timer job. See Create and Deploy Custom Timer Job Definition in SharePoint Programatically

@ps Strange. Looks like the only way to get it back is through a custom solution or a complete re-install and content move.

For internal search? No, and it's not needed either. SharePoint Search crawls PDF content (OCR) just as good.

@SharePointLearner I guess you're having your SharePoint Web App as a public website? If so the sitemap.xml will help external crawlers (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc...) but doesn't effect the internal Crawling, Content Processing or Indexing.

comment Can sharepoint 2010 search read a sitemap.xml for crawling?
@SharePointLearner Nope. If it's a SharePoint site, the Search Service Application already knows how the site/subsites are structured, and therefor site maps are ignored.
