Been interested in computers since my first trial in Basic in 1987. Ever since then worked in computer related business, either as a super user, designer or a programmer.

Main interest at the moment is SharePoint.SE and UserExperience.SE.

comment Read XML with PowerShell
Could you provide the XML-file and explain which default value you want to read from PowerShell? From the looks of it, you only need to append the XML-tag in $content.[xml-tag] and took for the XML-attribute in you if-statement. But the value can also be stored as a tag-value and not an attribute. So please edit your question, and add the XML-string you want to read from PowerShell.

comment Navigation menu with sharepoint variants in one variant not appear site
Hi and welcome to SP-SE Albert! Could you elaborate on the question telling us what template you're using, which version of SharePoint, activated features and what differs between the different pages and so on? The more information you provide, the more accurate answer can be given. Nice to see you here!

comment Architechture of Managed Navigation using Reuse Terms
Nice to hear! This is exactly what I do on each term through PowerShell $term.SetLocalCustomProperty("_Sys_Nav_SimpleLinkUrl", $newUrl)

comment Architechture of Managed Navigation using Reuse Terms
I know how to implement the solution, I even have scripts automating the process. What I'm asking in the question is if the concept of resuing terms is the preferred one of what I'm trying to accomplish: a matrix (faceted) navigation.

comment Create new Index Component and add it to a clone topology?
@RobertLindgren I don't think so. I want to remove the bad component/partition and add a fresh one. I've read the article, but it isn't close enough. I'll give it another shot tomorrow, and if i solve it - answer will be posted here.

@RobertLindgren I did a full restart of the server, hoping for the best, but still having the same problem. But yes, Search Components in SP2013 are a bit "magic" :)

comment Error while trying to Import Term Set using .CSV file
Hi and welcome to SP.SE Naim. Your answer may very well answer the question, but on this site, we like to add more of the solution in the content as the link may break in the future. There is no problem adding the link as reference, though. Nice to see you on our site!

comment How can I get the ID of the connected Item of ListView?
My idea was to follow the code through the process and see where you lose context. But I found another post, explaining the same, but using plain JavaScript instead: var ctx = SP.ClientContext.get_current(); var items = SP.ListOperation.Selection.getSelectedItems(ctx); I probably missed the ClientContext previous. Read the section Get Selected Item Context

comment Copy user accounts across site collections
Good! Maybe you only need to add the groups or users to the root site collection your moving to? Check permissions in Site Settings > Users and Groups. I have confidence in that you will solve this :)

Nice question @LukeP. Is User Profile Service Application configured and up an running? If not, is there a reason (aka policy) prohibiting you to use UPSA?

comment Are there any SharePoint virtual machines available from Microsoft?
If you have Windows 8.x you can enable Hyper-V in the Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features by clicking "Turn Windows features on or off". When Hyper-V is enabled, start by installing Windows Server, SQL Server and last SharePoint. Preferably by using [AutoSPInstaller]( autospinstaller.codeplex.com) from Codeplex.

comment Are there any SharePoint virtual machines available from Microsoft?
Hi and welcome to SP.SE, Naveen. To the best of my knowledge, Microsoft doesn't supply virtual maschines for SharePoint development purposes. But there are useful guides, such as Setting Up the Development Environment for SharePoint 2010 on Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008‌. Feel free to ask more questions on setting up the development environment. Nice to see you here!

comment User Profile Service will not Start
I had a similar problem on my development environment (WS2012), and the customer production environment (WS2008R2). I solved it using Harbar's Rational Guide to implementing SharePoint Server 2010 User Profile Application. It works on both SharePoint Server 2013 Standard and Enterprise. Try the guide, and don't leave out any step!

comment Is there a way to capture events when non-content objects added/deleted/modified?
Hi and welcome to SP.SE! You have a very interesting question there, which I myself would like to have an answer on. If I would guess, I would place my bets on PowerShell, but I haven't seen anything yet. Nice to see you here!
