comment What is difference between SharePoint REST and ODATA?
I think something as simple as The difference is that OData is a specific protocol; REST is architecture style and design pattern. should suffice

comment What is difference between SharePoint REST and ODATA?
The reason why I posted the link you reference as a comment on the question is because I'm not sure if it is really really SharePoint related, and perhaps a duplicate from SO (if that is even possible to tag here)

comment Get ContentType name with select fields
How incredibly odd. According to msdn you should be able to use the layout you have (.../Items(1)?$select=ContentType/Description&$expand=ContentType/Description). I did a quick test and this works: $select=*&$expand=ContentType (but doesn't help of course), as well does ...Items(1)/ContentType/Description and .../Items(1)/ContentType?$select=Description.

comment How to remove the save and cancel buttons from Custom SharePoint List form(New form)
That does sound like a horrible solution, but yes in theory that should work. Any button of type submit on the page should trigger a postback which should work as expected.

If you have a completely custom form, then you should be able to edit the XSLT and just remove the buttons from there

This is for 2013, and ListFormWebPart (I'm guessing you might be using both 2013 and this Web Part)

One way to disable the event receiver is to call EventFiringEnabled = false ref my link in comment in question.

comment SharePoint 2013 CSOM: Is it better to pass a Context object around or a Url?
@ElliotWood: Yes, they should not initialize the object. In provider hosted apps you do something like SharePointContextProvider.Current.GetSharePointContext(HttpContext).CreateUserC‌lientContextForSPHost() instead of just new ClientContext.

comment SharePoint 2013 CSOM: Is it better to pass a Context object around or a Url?
Note that when you initializing a new instance of ClientContext it will validate the URL, so at least 10 nanoseconds to save there. Although when initializing in a provider hosted app the overhead is much much larger

comment Use jQuery to make a “column” on the default view?
Is ajax interfering? For instance if the view has grouping enabled it will load through ajax. Many other scenarios can result in ajax as well, such as enabling asynchronous loading on the XsltListViewWebPart. - if yes than your selector will most likely fail, or the resulting text is initially wrong

comment Add List Item with managed metadata field through JSOM
Sorry @SanjayBhagia I am clueless. CSOM should not work any better if the others fail, especially since JSOM fails. I'm baffled that it works for you on update, but not insert. I can't see the link between that, and content type and taxonomy. Is it 2013 or 2010? (doubt taht matters). Could you try on a clean list/spweb/spsite/web app/server/something?
