comment Get file content, rename that file and after that getting the content again fails
I wish I had an answer, but the best I could was to upvote your question. I too have suffered this phenomenon, when using a workflow to rename a file. The rename is successful, but SharePoint forever uses the original name and then of course dies when trying to intereact with the file. I do hope you find an answer to this.

comment Conditional Formatting not applied to web part?
I know it is beyond shameless to comment on one's own answer to one's own question, but here goes: The solution I list does work, but it also results in a view where clicking on a list row returns "This item is no longer available." So, you get the conditional formatting, but lose any interactivity.

comment How to customize existing workflow.aspx page?
I like your question, and found it while searching for the same thing. I see you're getting a lot of negative hits. For my own sake, I was interested in adding some big "First Time User?" links on the page to give folks a bit of guidance on the workflow.aspx page. There are, imho, valid use cases for being able to mod the worfkow.aspx page.

comment start list workflow on item delete?
I took a similar solution, a custom action in the Ribbon. But that all (event receiver, custom action) ended up being a lot of C# work for what really should have been baked into the product. I do appreciate your comments, and it may serve to help folks who search this up in the future. Overall, I'm mystified as to why MS does not consider a list delete worthy of being actionable in a workflow.

comment start list workflow on item delete?
Scenario: Self-signup training system where students sign up for classes. Business need: Instructors want notification when students sign up for classes, AND when they drop from a class. Instructor courses are in one list, and in a related list, courseSignups, students sign up for a class. The sign-ups trigger a workflow successfully because they are an add to a list. The drops, though, because they are a delete from list, do not.

comment start list workflow on item delete?
Yeah, but how is adding something cause to fire a workflow off, but deleting something not? I ask not you, but I ask those at Microsoft. You can rest assured, your local bank is just as interested in withdrawals from your account as they are with deposits. In fact, they're probalby much more interested in withdrawls. A delete is just as worthy as an insert for consideration. It is in SQL Server with triggers, it should be here as well.

comment BCS and Filtering/Paging - External List vs Business Data List Web Part
So when you abandoned BCS, what did you do as an alternative? I'm in the same boat, and cannot believe MS calls this a "product". MS Access for cryin out loud, can call > 2000 records from an external db.

comment SharePoint Designer SQL Server Connections, Connection Strings
Perhaps a different approach would help. If you have access to the database itself, you might want to set up a test db, create a test login, and give that test login 'dbo' rights to the db. Search the web for something like "SP2010 BCS SQL" and get a tutorial like this: blog.arjanfraaij.com/2011/07/… Just to keep your sanity, see if you can get a connection established to your test db. Once you get that test db connection solved, you'll probably figure out what to fix in the real instance.
