I'm a SharePoint consultant in Calgary, Canada. Most of the work I do involves using SharePoint as a tool to support business processes.

“The server returned a non-specific error” when Grouping in a DataView Also check the field type - is it having trouble grouping on this type? Start real time logging with the ULS Viewer on the server (archive.msdn.microsoft.com/ULSViewer). Then go into SPD and apply your grouping. Go back to the logs after this and there's a chance you'll at least get a stack trace that'll help you get to the bottom of it. |

Get list of web parts on the client-side I had some help from the IE Developer Toolbar. In the html snippet above, it was the value of the id attribute that made it a good choice. Glad it helped. |

SharePoint view in grouping items by the first letter of the Title field With the potentially large number of items and the usability issues around grouping - would using a connected Text Filter Web Part or a Search Results web part (only searching on the given field) help the users out more? |

SharePoint view in grouping items by the first letter of the Title field I don't think LinkFilename is a supported type for calculated columns. |

Approving items in a folder Are you opposed to using columns and fields with views? Are you trying to keep the folder paradigm so that users feel more like they're in a traditional file share? |
