Yep - 1) create list with columns you want; 2) create HTML layout you want with placeholder elements (<span>s or <div>s), upload as a file; 3) use the uploaded HTML snippet as the content source for a ContentEditorWebPart on the page you want; 4) create a JQuery snippet to call the list's webservice and retrieve the row data, then add the values in to the HTML placeholder elements (might want to check out SPServices for this too); 5) add another ContentEditorWebPart using the JS snippet as it's content source. Can't be more specific sorry, don't have access to it any more!

As above but instead of the mysite location, it could create a document library per user at the appropriate site. It could then assign permissions only to that user and the site owners. Bear in mind that you'd end up with a lot of doc libraries on the site... Unaware of any equiv OOTB function to meet your requirement.

This sounds like a job for mysites & their shared documents. The first time requirement could be done with javascript checking for the existence of folders in the expected mysite location and if they aren't present, calling a workflow to create them. Would fall down if a user was to rename/move the doc library though.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I have enabled the Publishing Infrastructure feature and the options aren't present. Have updated the question to clarify.

Hi, I updated with a picture to try and illustrate the problem. Publishing features is definitely on but the 'Page Layout' option in the Page Actions Ribbon box is missing for the homepage.

comment How Can I Change My Intranet's Homepage Page Layout?
Hi @Falak, thanks for the answer. Your suggestions are correct and I've performed the first steps you've mentioned. I have clarified my question a bit more. I have a custom masterpage set as you've suggested and I have then overridden it for the home page. I now need to override the page layout used for the home page in the same way but there isn't even a 'page layout' button in the ribbon... Thanks for the reply.
