comment How to move site templates from SharePoint 2010 (on-premise) to SharePoint Online (Office 365)?
I agree, if your site contains a lot of lists and libraries, the manual process will take some effort. There is a lot of potential with the platform and so for some it will be worth it. As for the tools, they are worth it if your time is valuable or the move needs to happen quickly.

comment SharePoint 2010 - Security Trimming issue with Quick launch
I can not reproduce this situation. When users do not have permission on my servers, they do not see the links in the navigation. Please update the question or answer with more detail.

@Eric same comment for you. I don't find this to be true for maually added URLs. Without any audience setting, I can verify proper trimming of manual links to resources in the same site collection.

comment SharePoint 2010 - Security Trimming issue with Quick launch
I upvoted this answer too quickly. After double checking, I do not find this to be true. Please check your permissions and your links. In my test, I removed permission from one list and one subsite. All links were properly trimmed, including links manually added to the top nav and side nav for the sites.

comment FTP to SharePoint
The installation of SharePoint on a server doesn't disable regular IIS use. If you are familiar with IIS, you can create another website on the same server that doesn't use SharePoint and use it as you normally would. The only issue I could see with that is having multiple web site addresses, but maybe that's not an issue for you.

For a simple site, exporting and importing the individual lists and libraries may give you a head start to recreating your site template in Office 365,

I like this suggestion. Azure ACS does seem interesting, but wouldn't that incur a cost?

comment Sharepoint Web services: How to get permissions for a Document Library for the current user programmatically
I'm missing the connection between programmatic request of the poster and the user driven response of your answer. If you are implying that we can reverse engineer the solution from the check permissions button, it might be good to explain that. The other option seems to be that you can't do that in a web service, but it's not clear to me from this answer.

comment Convert SPD Based site to use Features / Solutions
@j if you aren't backing up your content datbases, you will have more issues than code loss. Customizations are important, but most SharePoint sites hold the majority of their value in their content. If you are backing up your content databases, you do have version control and redundancy.

comment How do I make RSS feeds show images for a blog?
Thanks for looking into it. I can't do either of those on my current host and I'm not sure I would do either if I could. However, it does give me the feeling maybe a ListFeed.aspx replacement could work in a Sandbox Solution. Maybe the combination of a custom master page and a web part that iterates through the posts.

comment How do I make RSS feeds show images for a blog?
No. I still would like to find a way to fix this. Sometimes, I host the images on other sites so the RSS Feed has only absolute links but most of the time I'm too lazy to do that extra step.

No. I moved it to a SharePoint 2007 master page without the webbot tags.

comment Add/Remove user from group when user is / is not a member already
I agree that it would be helpful for MSDN to include more information on expections for SharePoint. However, I think you have to test it to find out. Have you tried using Powershell for quick tests? I find it very helpful for small things like this.

Have you tried it without check-in required or toggling the major, minor version handling?
