comment Audit log a specific user (or: Monitor the admin)
Site Collection admin is just two people, but management doesn't like the fact those two can read all (One of the SCAdmin is me ...). The site has thousands of hits a day (300 people working all day on 600 GB of documents) Thus my reluctance to activate Auditing.

I was unable to reproduce your problem. Try adding some debug output to your script, e.g.: "Write-host $targetUrl" to check if all variables are correct.

comment SPWeb being closed when getting list by powershell. What's wrong?
Look at MSDN and ask questions here! So we all can learn (as I did about SPAssingment!)

I did not try this, and I didn't know (remember?) about SPAssingment. It is stated on MSDN: "It is important to note that every site collection returned by the Get-SPWeb cmdlet is automatically disposed of at the end of the pipeline. To store the results of Get-SPWeb in a local variable, the Start-SPAssignment and Stop-SPAssignment cmdlets must be used to avoid memory leaks." on technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff607807.aspx

comment List Templates and Custom Contenttypes missing document template on list creation
Thanks! Now it works. I did have to copy the full field definitions and the full contenttype definitions to the Schema file. Using ContentTypeRef doesn't work. The full CT-def with the Folder and DocumentTemplate elements did the trick. Thanks again!

Again: I don't have, and can't have listinstances! It should be a template end-users can use. The end-users will create new lists (one or more in a web) based on this template.

I know I have to duplicate the template in the library itself. But how to do that in CAML? I don have a list-instance since the end user must be able to create the list (multiple instances of it) themselves. I'll try with duplicating the whole ct-def in the list-def.
