Yep, one of the features readily available on O365 which will take a while for uptake for on-prem SP2013 installs.

comment How to programmatically check if the current user has permissions to a site collection?
Assuming you are using Sharepoint 2010 and above. (which is reasonable, but thought I would add it anyway).

comment Self-service site creation (e.g. MySites) - specify Content DB
Thanks - yes that was my line of thinking - host named site collections. The round robin is not ideal as some my sites could end up in other sites content Dbs. Looks like MySites still needs to be in its own web application. :)

A word of advice, before you test the "exclude" function, comment out the actual update code and replace it with debug code like writing the Url of the site - to confirm it has excluded mysites. :)

I would not suggest storing application-specific data in the configuration database.

This is pretty much the same answer as @Simon Doy s, except you are passing a StreamReader instead.

Depending on the size of the document, you may want to save the file to memory first, then try XDocument.Parse. That will separate your two proceses: 1. Downloading the file, and 2. Parsing the Xml document.

Have you had any issues with user profile import or synchronisation? You may find this issue is due to not being able to map users to these views. Are users alerts still working?
