comment New/Edit form how to tell if people picker is multiple or single with code
It should be injecting a comment into the HTML that you might be able to leverage like so <!-- FieldName="single" FieldInternalName="single" FieldType="SPFieldUser" --> SPServices does have a handy function to get to People Picker fields, spservices.codeplex.com/…

comment New/Edit form how to tell if people picker is multiple or single with code
It is only 1 call, you get the entire field collection back in the response. There doesn't appear to be any other way unless you want to use your sketchy approach. This ensures you get the right data.

comment CSS Style not applying to all pages
Also it appears you are on different site collections, the alternate CSS link does not break site collection boundaries. It has to be configured on each site.

comment Alternative approaches to designing workflows for simple approval process in SharePoint
After clicking next on the first page, you get to the task options where you can specify a group. If this is a manually initiated process, then this becomes a template the users can customize. If it is a on creation/on edit, then it uses the values you specify without allowing the user to alter it when initiated.
