comment Execution of code as Application Pool account
Using the best practice of least privilege accounts for content application pools it will just not be possible to update the config database directly from here. One work-around could be to store change requests in a regular list and then let a SharePoint Timer job pick up the request and make the appropriate changes. You can let the timer job run every minute or so to check for new change reuqests.

I do not think the UserToken will work - the SharePoint object model will at the end of the day still access the database with the credentials of the application pool account. The UserToken is merely used to test the access permissions for objects before they are returned through the object model.

comment Soft Limits for Sharepoint2010 document libraries, page libraries and lists
Ok, I also doubt that there is a tool out there for the job. At least I have never heard of any migration tools from any java based systems to SharePoint!

Well, from a migration perspective you must simply migrate the content to SP2010 in such a way that you do not violate the SP2010 boundaries and limits. How do you plan to migrate - can you purchase a tool for the job or are you going to develop your own tool/script?

comment Best practices for building a SharePoint Extranet
Appreciate the kind words :-) Yes, rollup is for sure not the problem in my argumentation. We can use search or build our own simplified CQWP if the search indexing lag is unacceptable to the client.

comment Best practices for building a SharePoint Extranet
Thanks for the great links :-) However, we are not looking to build a full-blown hosting environment. Just a "simple" Extranet that a few customers can log on to to view project information from their vendor.

comment Admin considerations for searching on WSS 3.0
Ok! The default and only search scope in WSS 3.0 is "This site" which means the search will only return content from the current site and sub-sites. Hence, you will not see results from other site collections owned by other customers. Moreover, the built-in security trimming should also prevent users from seeing results they are not authorized to view.
