comment Why, on occasion, does executeQueryAsync() fail to execute success OR failure method?
I'd like to use the REST Interface, via listdata.svc, but it seems to be disabled on both the Test and Prod servers. The admins here really don't know what they're doing and/or are too busy. After some brief Googles a few people have owssvr.dll is still accessible in SP2013.

In the end I discovered I can query owssvr.dll in a very similar manner. The only caveat is the result get returned in XML format. I query the list for ID = current item ID and Active = Yes. If the returned xml file contains more than 0 "z:row" elements I know the current item is active. If the resulting xml file has NO z:row elements I know the item is inactive. Then it's just a matter of using CAMOpt() to add the appropriate custom action to the ECB. Very elegant! Great solution, in the end. I can't be more grateful for your help.

As it turns out ListData.svc is unavailable. I'm not in charge of the servers so getting it set up is going to be a head ache. Looking for alternate ways to query for data.

url: L_Menu_BaseUrl + "/_vti_bin/listdata.svc/DocumentDefects(" + currentItemID + ")?$select=StatusValue" Is "DocumentDefects" a folder specific to your site? I'm afraid I don't quite understand ListData.svc. I've loaded jQuery and the function triggers, but returns with failure so far. I'll keep plugging. Thanks for the push in the right direction!

Thanks for the insightful and helpful post. I can see that I have more to learn about Asynchronous programming. It wasn't my intention to add jQuery but I'll see what I can do in that regards. The Sys Admins ALSO have a thing about modifying master pages. The CAMOpt method seems very helpful in this case. Perhaps I will get to try this out later today. Thanks again.

@JosephDSurgeon I would like to agree with you.. except in this case my experience proves otherwise.

comment How do I delete potentially many items from more than one list using JavaScript?
Unfortunately this seems like an issue beyond my control. The "department" (people) responsible for looking into issues like this would take weeks and weeks and I don't have the time to wait. I'm going to have to look into other means of getting this done. Cheers!

I've just tried your code. After adapting it to fit my site here it worked very briefly. Upon adding the remaining lists into the queue array the function now fails, and fails again if I change it back to the working version I adapted. I can mark yours as correct as it has worked, but there's something beyond me going on at my end. I really don't know what to say. Sometimes the scripts work the next minute they don't, and this is all without changing anything.
