comment Store HTML files in a document library - how to prevent SharePoint adding “ghosting” code
The files are stored in an external source and the source is periodically updated. I want to create a schedule task to check if the files I have in SharePoint are different to those in source and get all which are new or updated. The problem is that the comparison says that all the files are different all the time.

comment How do I know that which server processes my custom workflow in SharePoint 2010?
Well, you don't need to do it exactly that way. The idea is to use the resources from layouts folder. Your workflow can for example display an image from _layouts folder on the page. Edit this image on each server (draw a number 1,2.. on the picture). Then run the workflow and see what number is presented. Or find out your way of using _layout folder.

I know it doesn't answer your question, but if you need to use IE and prefer Chrome, you can use add-in called "IE Tab". Url: chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ie-tab/… You can also use it to login to SP using 2 different users.
