comment Unable to open document from Drop off library in SharePoint 2010
You say you are trying to open the documents from a web application, do you mean from a custom App? Have you tried to open them the browser directly?

I am terribly sorry. I missed that you tagged this as SP2010. No this won't work as you can't call REST from an SP2010 WF. I honestly don't know of a way you can do this without a custom code WF in 2010. Again, you could do it from the javascript file, but it won't work in the NewForm because the item hasn't been added yet. If you are willing to trust users to do it, you could try a custom action that directs you to a page that you can load javascript files on and call REST from there. However, custom actions have to be manually activated.

I am not sure how you are going to do by sub site. My solution merely hooks into the section where sub sites and lists are displayed. You would have to further add logic to ensure the section you are modifying is the list of sites. I am not sure where SharePoint builds the list. I assume there is some code in behind that does it as I don't believe it is done in one of the .js files. This means you have to wait for the page to render to modify the list. You can do this by attaching a .js file to your master page or adding the code directly to the master page (not recommended).

Hi, I am sorry, I am not following what you are asking. Where is the data coming from. Are you creating a custom page that pulls data from a list? Are you modifying a OOTB form in SharePoint? What it sounds like is you have a custom page that you are pulling the fields of a list or document from. Please explain your needs a bit better.
