I did, but it also messes up the ribbon controls.

comment Applying XSL to a field in sandboxed solutions
Well, I managed to get the presentation to work just fine by using the XslLink property, but I ran into a but in SharePoint described <a href="glynblogs.com/2011/05/…;. Bottom line it's unfortunately not practical, even though it's easier to modify the XSL. Thanks anyway though.

That's interesting. When you reference an XSL file like that, do you have to include a lot of 'baggage', i.e. do you have to use a default .xsl and expand on it, or can it contain only your custom code?

I strongly suggest you never even think about thinking about opening the SharePoint database

comment Why would linq to sharepoint ever return null list items?
Only as far as the 'Where' clause. As soon as you add 'FirstOrDefault()', you will get either the first item of the IEnumerable, or null if the IEnumerable doesn't contain any items. Could you try and split up your query? First get all processes, then do FirstOrDefault on the next line. If you debug then you should be able to tell whether A) the collection is empty or B) the where clause causes the exception. If it's the latter, see for which item the exception occurs. I don't see how 'p' or 'ProcessID' could be null, but maybe something happens in the constructor of Process.

Does that mean I need to switch from using the web service to using the SharePoint COM?
