If I remember correctly, the multi-line isn't compatible with much of anything outside of SharePoint. Try changing it to a single line of text and increase the char count and see if that works. If you need to use multi-line, try it as plain text, but I have my doubts it'll work. Let me know if you find a work around, would be worth knowing.

The quick parts will retain their values. If the other document library has the same content type with the same columns, the document will slot in nicely. If you want to ensure that this happens, you may want to ensure that the content types of the libraries match.

Create your doc set, add your shared columns, then go to the doc set, add a new document of the content type you want (click the new doc pulldown and select your content type). You cannot do this. The New item form is just an asxp page that allows you to enter data about the file in the library. The file needs to get created somehow and you will have to open the application to make the file, sharepoint won't do this for you.
