I build an SharePoint 2013 Sandbox Event Receiver which works in my local on-prem dev environment. However, when pushing it up to my SharePoint Online tenant it does not work nor even fire at all.

I can see the event receiver attaching and detaching from my list using the SharePoint Client Browser for SharePoint 2010 and 2013 with each activation/deactivation so I know it is attaching properly.

Are there any special configurations necessary for it to work on SPOnline? Thanks

Sandbox solutions has been deprecated using custom code. Please check the below link http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sharepointdev/archive/2014/01/14/deprecation-of-custom-code-in-sandboxed-solutions.aspx

May be that is reason your event receiver is not working.

It is because you have to activate two times.

Both in the solution page and the you have to go to the Feature page and activate the feature.

I have activated the feature correctly. It is activated on the solution gallery AND the Site Feature Activation. –  ChiliYago Mar 9 at 13:59
