I've setup SP2010 Server Trial on my VM with the Farm configuration. I created a Domain service account - SQLAccount - as part of the preparation prior to setting up SP2010. The existing Search Service Application gives the crawl status error:

The search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts
the administration component. Verify that the administration component
'cb15fbd2-902b-443a-a79a-e89a2971b576' in search application 'Search Service
Application' is in a good state and try again.

I've also ensured that SQLAccount is a farm admin.

When I try to create a new Search Service Application using SQLAccount, a new app pool Sharepoint Admin Web Service and Sharepint Query Web Service both using the SQLAccount service account, I receive the following error:

Errors were encountered during the configuration of the Search Service Application.

Can anyone guide me as to steps to resolve the above error?

Thanks much for your help.

Have you checked things like Firewall settings, service application associations, do service app accounts have access to the dbs, is STS, state service etc. set up, have you tried re-creating the search service app with a different application pool? These are just some of the things that can catch you out. Also, in addition to the ULS logs, check your Windows event logs. Just a bunch of ideas to try. Good luck! – SPDoctor May 29 '11 at 8:34
