I accidentally published a new major version causing a document going from version 4 to 5.

How can I revert the version number?

I want the version number to be 4, and delete the 5. So that next time the document gets a major version, it will be 5.

From version history I can revert/restore the changes to version 4, but the version number is still going up (in this case 5.1).

How can I achieve that? From SharePoint or Powershell?
