SharePoint Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for SharePoint enthusiasts. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I am trying to hide Site Navigation button links that we have made which replaces that standard site navigation. We are using the enterprise version of SharePoint 2010 and basically want to hide link items that the user does not have access to. Below is an example of one of the buttons (we have 5 buttons in total);

<SharePoint:SPLinkButton id="fillername" NavigateUrl="/filler" PermissionsString="Open" runat="server">
  <div class="navitem">
    <img src="/PublishingImages/filler.png" width=60 height=60 />

-- Repeated 5 times for each button --

I have been searching online and found the Permission String control but this runs based on the current site, e.g. in this example the value is Open ("Allow users to open a Web site, list, or folder to access items inside that container.") BUT from playing around with the control I am guessing this is based on the current site, i.e. if i have that level of access on the site i am in then i will see the button.

What I need to have is if the user has access to view the site which that button links to then they will be able to see the button.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
