SharePoint Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for SharePoint enthusiasts. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I am customizing existing OOTB sharepoint pagelayouts, such as the search result pagelayout and trying to deploy them so I don't have to edit them via SharePoint Designer.

I have downloaded copies of them and added them to my solution and made the customizations I wanted.

I have included the code from Falak's blog into my deployment feature, as a simple IgnoreIfAlreadyExists in the module XML did not help.

Unfortunately Falak's code does only seem to work on custom and previously deployed pagelayout but not OOTB sharepoint pagelayouts.

I did edit them in SharePoint Designer before trying this, but ran Reset to sitedefinition on the pagelayouts before I deployed them.

Is it even possible to overwrite OOTB pagelayouts?
If so, what am I missing?
