SharePoint Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for SharePoint enthusiasts. It's 100% free, no registration required.

We need to provide forms authentication on a SharePoint Internet website where the users will be added to the site collection they have access permission.

It's kind of a multi-tenant website. Imagine we have CompanyA, CompanyB and CompanyC, where each one of them have their own user list.

We've made a custom login page and added to it a custom webpart that validates the user on the website they are trying to get access. As the login page is placed at the main site collection, the context info is unavailable for the website that the users is trying to visit. So we have to concatenate the name of the website to the user's login name (just like a domain) in the custom login page and validate in a custom membership provider.

But we are now having problems with the authenticate.aspx page, which is opened after the ValidateUser method returns true in the custom membership provider.

Here is the exception:

Getting Error Message for Exception System.ArgumentException: Exception of type 'System.ArgumentException' was thrown. Parameter name: encodedValue at Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.Claims.SPClaimEncodingManager.DecodeClaimFromFormsSuffix(String encodedValue) at Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.Claims.SPClaimProviderManager.GetProviderUserKey(IClaimsIdentity claimsIdentity, String encodedIdentityClaimSuffix) at Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.Claims.SPClaimProviderManager.GetProviderUserKey(String encodedIdentityClaimSuffix) at Microsoft.SharePoint.Utilities.SPUtility.GetFullUserKeyFromLoginName(String loginName) at Microsoft.SharePoint.SPGlobal.CreateSPRequestAndSetIdentity(SPSite site, String name, Boolean bNotGlobalAdminCode, String strUrl, Boolean bNotAddToContext, Byte[] UserToken, SPAppPrincipalToken appPrincipalToken, String userName, Boolean bIgnoreTokenTimeout, Boolean bAsAnonymous) at Microsoft.SharePoint.SPWeb.InitializeSPRequest() at Microsoft.SharePoint.SPWeb.EnsureSPRequest() at Microsoft.SharePoint.WebControls.SPControl.EnsureSPWebRequest(SPWeb web) at Microsoft.SharePoint.WebControls.SPControl.SPWebEnsureSPControl(HttpContext context) at Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationRuntime.BaseApplication.Application_PreRequestHandlerExecute(Object sender, EventArgs e) at Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationRuntime.SPRequestModule.PreRequestExecuteAppHandler(Object oSender, EventArgs ea) at System.Web.HttpApplication.SyncEventExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() at System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously)

Do you have any suggestion? The exception mentions the SPClaimProviderManager, so, do I have to extend it too?
