  1. Changed DNS to map to http://abc
  2. Changed alternate access mapping in Central Administration to http://abc

When I try to open up explorer view it gives me an error. But when I use the machine name I do not have any problems using explorer view.

How do I rectify this problem?

Thank you for tagging your questions with the product version. Could you please also add tags for what they are about as I have here? Also, it's more helpful to answerers if you can include the actual error text from errors you receive. Thanks! – Alex Angas Oct 18 '10 at 23:18
absolutely I can add tags.I did go thru the list and did not notice any specific tags for alternate-access-mapping.Also how do i attach images – sharepointde1tuke Oct 19 '10 at 14:34
Right now you need to upload the image somewhere else, then click the picture frame icon when writing a question/answer. We hope to improve this in the future. – Alex Angas Oct 19 '10 at 22:20

Without knowing more about the error it's difficult to say.

It could be a problem with the authentication associated with the zone.

This url references a number of troubleshooting options to try (its 2007 specific but likely a number of issues are present between versions). For example, authentication is a common problem with Alternate Access Mappings and WebDav.

layman terms . users can access explorer view from document library if i use machine name (actual name of the pc) .I change the machine name to a more meaningful name eg intranet . users get error . Windows explorer error ( you might not have permissions to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Configuration information could not be read from domain controller ,either because the machine is unavailable or access is denied – sharepointde1tuke Oct 19 '10 at 14:53

Ok Never mind . I figured it out.It has nothing to do with AAM or with SP2010 per say. It was how the network was setup
