A main (top-level) site will not allow me to break the inheritance to its document libraries.
I needed to secure two document libraries, four picture libraries, and a page on a main site, so I went into the permissions section of each library and selected the Stop Inheriting Permissions button on the ribbon. The SharePoint system says that the inheritance was broken and that the libraries have unique permissions. This is not the case, however.
On the main site, I created a new group with Visitor permission level. If the inheritance had been broken, I knew that the newly created group would not appear in the permissions section of each library. As it turned out, the new group did appear in each permissions section.
I am very baffled by this problem and do not understand the reason the inheritance will not break (done it before successfully with a different company's SharePoint sites).
Is there a possibility the permissions were not set correctly when the site was developed? Would appreciate any help.
Many thanks! V
