SharePoint Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for SharePoint enthusiasts. It's 100% free, no registration required.

When we access our SharePoint site through our local intranet, everything is fine. However, when accessing our Sharepoint site from an external website, when attempting to add or edit items to a certain list we get this error:

"The following location is not accessible, because it is in a different site collection."

We think the issue is that the list is trying to access the InfoPath form using the intranet address (which is http://companyweb) rather than the remote address (https://webmail.hostname.com/remote). The odd part is that several of our lists DO allow new items to be accessed and edited from the remote connection, while this one list in particular gives the above error message. We also noticed that the remote site uses https while the intranet does not. I was not the person who set up this SharePoint but have recently started helping out this company with various SharePoint problems.
