SharePoint Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for SharePoint enthusiasts. It's 100% free, no registration required.

On my SharePoint Server 2010 based publishing site, I have created a custom error page, and updated the web.config to point to these this new page:

<customErrors defaultRedirect="/members/oops.aspx" mode="Off">

I also customized the ootb accessdenied.aspx page, within Visual Studio so it looks a lot better and is more informative.

In most cases, if someone tries to access an area of the website that they don't have permissions for, then they see my customize accessdenied.aspx page, but in others they see a plain page with just "403 FORBIDDEN" instead, no branding or customization.

My question is:

Why is this plain '403 FORBIDDEN" message showing up at this URL for some sites within my collection...

http://mysite/delivery/_layouts/AccessDenied.aspx?Source=http%3A%2F%2Fmysite%
2Fdelivery%2FPages%2Fdefault%2Easpx&Type=list&name=%7B7EAA1880-A39B-4191-9A50-
FECF527E19E9%7D

...but not for others. seems the same to me, except for the path of the sites

Are there site settings that I should be looking at, or different web.config settings? perhaps my custom version of accessdenied.aspx can't be displayed for permissions reasons, though I don't know what they might be.

Advice would be appreciated.

Kevin
