We have a large amount of documents that are stored on a network share in the traditional manner with directories and subdirectories. I would like to begin to tag these documents so that only links to a selection of documents that are relevant to small user groups are automatically presented to those specific users on their own webpage. I do not want to restructure how the documents that are currently stored, as a large number of users actively use the documents and are familiar with the structure.
My hope is that users will begin to start accessing documents via their user group webpage and that the tags attached to documents will eventually inform their physical location and some restructuring can be carried out. We are about to start using Sharepoint and it seems to me that this is something that it might be able to do rather well, but I don't know how to start. Am I barking up the right tree?
