I have an interesting problem that i hope you can help me with.

I have written a custom fieldtype that extends the sptextfield using the example from this website.

http://bernado-nguyen-hoan.com/2011/11/07/walkthrough-custom-field-type-for-uploading-and-displaying-images-in-sharepoint-2010-lists/

My new custom fieldtype has a set of custom properties that are store in the propertyschema tag of the fldtype.xml file for my custom type. And i have also added a fieldeditor of my own to be able to manipulate the customproperties from the standard create column view.

The custom type is working and i can use it and it is possible to change the values of the custom properties. All of that is working well, but i need to add the type settings that are specific to the sptextfield type. Things like, default value, type of default value and max number of chars. I want to somehow be able to manipulate these properties of my type(and its basetype) from the editor view.

I am looking for the correct way to try and solve this problem. Is it necessary for me to build this "standard" functionality once again into my editor class and usercontroll or is it possible to borrow or extend this type of behaviour from within the sharepoint source itself. I have been looking into using script and ascx src from the fldNew.aspx file. But this route seems to be rather daunting and if there is a smarter way to do this i would be very grateful if someone could inform me.
