I have a site where the AD users are not properly synchronized; New users are not created and old users are not updated with new names, titles, etc.
Checking the Shared Services-application, I could see that it was stuck "Importing (936)", and had been going at it for a while. Trying to stop the import gave no results, so I did a bit of googling and people suggested restarting the "Office SharePoint Server Search". It gave some errors, but eventually stopped and now I am unable to start it.
Whenever I try the following appears in my event log:

EventID: 10036
Type: Error
Details: A database error occurred.

Code: 0 occurred 17 time(s)
Description: Unspecified error.
Context: Application ‘SharedServices’
As it gives code "0" and "Unspecified error" I have very little go on. If anyone has experienced anything similar or could point me to alternative sources of information for debugging, I would be very grateful.
