SharePoint Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for SharePoint enthusiasts. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have the current site layout:

  • Portal home
    • Accounts
    • Purchasing
    • HR

Each child site has a document library.

I would like to customise the layout of the home page for each sub-site but I am not sure how.

I have seen i can make a aspx webpart page (this is great) I can then set this as my home page and customise as needed, however it shows up in the document library and i accidently deleted this - no supprises the sub-site stopped working for the home navigation for the child site!

Two questions:

1) Rather than have to remove the site, how can i remove sites pointing to deleted pages as their home page (and go back to defaults)?

2) Is it possible to hide this page so it cant be deleted or even be seen (apart from in the Manage Content and Structure panel)?
