I am creating a SharePoint Designer workflow that will automatically assign a tracking number to new list items when they are created. This tracking number is a calculated field which concatenates the month and year of the create date with a sequential number to create a unique value.

The sequential number is in another list and this workflow increments that number and assigns it to a hidden field on the item, which causes the calculated tracking number to update and display the sequential number. I currently have the sequential number resetting every day by keeping track of the last reset date and comparing it to [Today] when I start the workflow. If they are different, I reset the sequential number and update the last reset date.

Is there a way I can compare the month of the last reset date and the month of [Today] in the workflow to determine if a reset is required?

UPDATE: For now, I am looking into adding 2 workflows to the sequential number list which will trigger each other on a daily basis. The workflows will be set to start on item update and will pause for 1 day and update the item, kicking off the other identical workflow. I will add a boolean calculated column that will compare the modified month and last reset month and specify if a reset is needed. I can check this column in my main workflow and if the column is yes, reset the sequential number and set the boolean column to no. I believe this should solve my problem but I am still open to better solutions.
