SharePoint Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for SharePoint enthusiasts. It's 100% free, no registration required.

If a link opens a file that the user only has view capabilites, and they then click on the edit in word button in the top banner, they will get an error message - this is as it should be. BUT, when they close that error, it dumps them into the library that they only have view capabilites.

Can you either, control the access to that folder, limit what happens after they click to close the message or remove the "edit in word" button from the document view window?

Thanks, Gordon
