SharePoint Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for SharePoint enthusiasts. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I need to alter the Alerts Template for a particular list, but don't even know where to begin.

I know I need to make a copy of the xml file. Once I actually update the copy I need to execute some powershell and then restart the timer job. I also read something about needing to do something programatically, but I'm not sure.

Does anyone have any step by step documentation out there to help me out?

Thanks, Ninel

What is it that you are doing to the alerts? – Dave Wise Jul 16 '12 at 16:22
I would like to remove the heading and only display certain columns – ninel Jul 16 '12 at 17:13

Alternate way is to get a software product for it, e.g.:

http://www.harepoint.com/Products/HarePointCustomAlerts/Default.aspx

As an unique feature, you can use previous value in the templates.

It is commercial product, but manual editing of templates is the not task for a day.
