You must use InfoPath rules for this. But you must write two rules. One for display "old" and one for disable text box.
To display "old" in text box:
1- Click the dropdown box.
2- Find the "manage rules" menu on the ribbon and click it.(In the "intro" tab)
3- A new window will open, generally right side of the InfoPath form.
4- On the new window, select "action" from the dropdown menu. When you select it, it will create a template for your rule.
5- You must change the condition for your rule, it must work when "old" selected. So, click the rule condition. You must select your condition from here. Such as
"2" is the ID of your dropdown item. (I guess if the "old" value is the second value of the dropdown, you must choose 2, otherwise 1.) and click ok.
6- On the "add" dropdown menu in the rule, select "set item value". When u select this, a small window will open. On the first box, choose your textbox and second choose your dropdown and click ok.
To disable your text box:
1- Click your text box.
2- Do the 2nd-3rd items above.
3- From the "new" drop down menu select "style"(or like this, I do not remember what to write now). It will create a template for your rule.
4- Set our condition like above and then select "disable this item" from checkboxes below your rule.
Sorry for my bad English, hope this helps you.
