Since we completed some work on our SharePoint environment the search crawls on some of the site collections are generating thousands of failures. The ULS logs refer to a COWSServer ?

Here is a extract of the log

COWSServer has already been initialized, Url, hr=80041201 state = 1 [sts3util.cxx:1309] d:\office\source\search\native\gather\protocols\sts3\sts3util.cxx

My search crawl db has also grown to over 300GB since this occurred. Total content db size about 1Tb (multi dbs)

Does anyone have ideas on what this is ? I googled "COWSServer" but didn't really come up with anything useful.

Thanks

Nothing else in the ULS logs related to the error? And the reason for the crawl db is growing fast is because of all the errors you get, they are stored in the crawl db iirc. – Anders Aune Feb 15 at 17:25
Yes, we reset the index and shrunk the search database. It reduced from 320GB to 8mb! Still don't know what the error referred to or even if it was the cause of the problem. – winxyle Mar 29 at 14:03
