We are using SP2010 and have many content types and are using Content Type Hub for publishing these content types to site collections. These content types are being used in tens of Site collections and hundreds of lists & libraries.
In this content type, we have a calculated column, whose value depends on other columns. It was working all fine, and now management wants to change the logic of this calculated column.
So, we are now faced with two problems...
- How to update this content type and roll this changes to all site collections and list-libraries ie update lists and libraries to use this new update content type
- How to update existing calculated column values that uses this old content type. (since there is now new logic for calculated column)
Updating content type can be done by UI or coding, but I would like to know if you have faced similar problems before and how you solved this, since we would like to minimize the risks here before doing anything and want to know all possible approaches for this problem.
