I created a new folder content type that has several columns of data and then created some folders in a list using the content type. I then created a list template and included content. When I created a new list from the list template, none of the folders are created with the new folder content type. They are all created as a regular folder.

Does it show your content type in the list of content types on the new list? – MBSurf May 7 '10 at 13:10
as far as i know, you can't create folder content type but can associated with the parent list content type, view can be customized to show only the wanted columns. Please make sure you have enabled the new folder option is under the list settings. – Karthikeyan Feb 13 '11 at 9:13
